The Most Laughable Tweet and Quote of 2012

By a unanimous vote of 1, this is the most laughable Tweet and quote that I saw on Twitter in 2012:

Is this guy for real?

Even if I had no idea who Matt Cutts is, and somebody showed me the quote and told me a guy from Google said that, it would still be the most laughable and ridiculous quote published on Twitter this year.

You can’t make the argument about not understanding the context. No matter what the context is, it makes him sound like the Central Banker of Search.

I get that Google likes this to be the perception, and it may even be their ideal. But it seems more and more likely that this isn\’t the case anymore, even if it used to be. SERPs are becoming more and more weighted towards paid real estate vs earned real estate, and even within paid search, some of Google\’s decisions definitely seem to be governed more by what they make than by what\’s best for their users. But they still need to keep a good user experience going, or their ability to make money will start to really diminish.

I wish I had as good of a tweet like that, but yeah, it is pretty funny.

It\’s a false dichotomy (\”user experience\” vs. making/losing money), and like many platitudes, it\’s pretty hollow and useless.
